Modern Concrete Look Bathroom — Industrial / Japandi Style

Project: Modern Concrete Look Bathroom  |  Room: Bathroom  |  Difficulty: Easy–Medium  |  Time: 4–6 hours  |  Panels: Concrete Beige or Concrete Brick Tile PVC 2400×1000mm

Concrete and raw material aesthetics are having a major moment in bathroom design — think calm Japandi minimalism, moody industrial lofts, and the kind of serene bathrooms you see in design hotels across Tokyo and Copenhagen. The good news? You don't need to pour actual concrete or commission a specialist finish. These PVC shower panels recreate the exact look at a fraction of the cost, and you can install them yourself in a day.

Britwall offers two concrete-effect PVC panels that suit different styles — the smooth, minimal Concrete Beige for a Japandi or spa feel, and the more textured Concrete Brick Tile for an industrial or warehouse aesthetic. Both are 100% waterproof, flameproof, and grout-free.

Choose Your Style — Two Looks, One Price

Both panels are the same size (2400×1000mm), the same price (£50 each), and install identically. The only difference is the aesthetic they create:

Japandi / Spa

Concrete Beige

Smooth, seamless concrete texture in a warm off-white beige. No grout lines, no tile pattern — just a clean, expansive surface that makes any bathroom feel like a luxury retreat.

  • Natural oak or walnut vanity
  • Brushed brass or matte black taps
  • Round mirror, rattan accessories
  • Stone-look or terrazzo floor tiles
  • Indoor plants, linen towels
Industrial / Urban

Concrete Brick Tile

Realistic grey concrete brick tile pattern with dark charcoal grout lines. Adds structure and texture — gives a bathroom an urban edge that feels intentional and design-forward.

  • Matte black or gunmetal fittings
  • Steel or black metal shelving
  • Edison bulb light fittings
  • Dark concrete or slate floor tiles
  • Minimal accessories, clean lines

💡 Can't decide? Use Concrete Beige on the main walls and Concrete Brick Tile as a feature strip behind the basin or in the shower enclosure. The contrast between smooth and textured concrete reads as deliberate and designed — a very current interior look.

Step-by-Step Installation

1

Prepare the Surface

Clean all walls thoroughly with a degreaser and allow to dry completely. These panels can be fixed directly over existing tiles (if firmly bonded and flat), bare plaster, or painted walls. Check every existing tile for hollow spots by pressing firmly — any loose tiles must be re-adhered before proceeding. Fill any gaps or holes with waterproof filler and sand flush once dry.

2

Plan Your Layout

Each panel is 1000mm wide — work out how many full-width panels fit across each wall, and where cut panels will fall. For the Concrete Beige (smooth finish), joins between panels are virtually invisible so layout is straightforward. For the Concrete Brick Tile, check that the brick pattern aligns across the join before fixing — dry-fit two panels together on the floor first to confirm the pattern matches at the edges.

3

Cut Panels to Size

For height cuts, score the face of the panel deeply with a sharp Stanley knife against a straight edge and snap cleanly. For more complex cuts around taps, shower outlets, and pipes, use a fine-tooth jigsaw. Always cut the Concrete Brick Tile panel so the brick pattern continues naturally from the cut edge — position your cut line on a "grout line" in the pattern wherever possible.

4

Apply Adhesive and Fix First Panel

Apply adhesive in vertical zigzag lines on the back of the first panel. Start from an internal corner — press firmly into position and check plumb with a spirit level both vertically and horizontally. Hold for 30 seconds. For the Concrete Beige panels especially, take extra care to get the first panel perfectly vertical as any lean becomes more obvious on a seamless surface with no pattern to distract the eye.

5

Continue Around the Room

Butt each new panel tightly against the previous one — the tongue-and-groove edges create a near-invisible join. Work your way around the room, checking the level of each panel as you go. For the Concrete Brick Tile, double-check the pattern alignment at each join before the adhesive sets. Add mounting clips at the top and bottom of each panel in the shower zone for extra security.

6

Seal All Edges Thoroughly

Apply waterproof silicone sealant along every edge — the base where panels meet the floor or bath tray, around all fixtures, at internal corners, and at any cut edges. For the Concrete Brick Tile panel, apply the sealant in a grout line for a seamless look — it disappears into the pattern beautifully. Smooth each bead immediately with a damp finger and allow 24 hours to cure before using the shower.

💡 Japandi styling tip — Less is always more: The power of the concrete look is in its restraint. Resist the urge to add too many accessories. One well-placed plant, a single wooden stool, two folded linen towels — that's all you need. The walls do the work. Clutter kills the calm.

Why Concrete Effect PVC Over Real Concrete?

Real concrete in a bathroom requires specialist application, sealing, and ongoing maintenance. Unsealed concrete stains easily and can harbour bacteria. Even sealed concrete needs re-sealing every 1–2 years. It's heavy, cold, and extremely expensive to apply professionally.

Concrete PVC panels give you the exact same aesthetic, are 100% waterproof with zero maintenance, weigh a fraction of the amount, and cost hundreds of pounds less. They're also reversible — if you ever want to change your bathroom look, panels can be removed without damaging the wall structure behind.

No grout to worry about. Real concrete tile grout darkens, stains, and grows mould over time. PVC panels eliminate grout lines entirely — the concrete texture is printed, not grouted. Cleaning is simply a wipe with a damp cloth.
